A surface scorch differs from a burn that has melted the pile or damaged the backing. Cleaning cannot replace fibres that have been melted or destroyed.
Where patching is suitable, the damaged section is removed and replaced with compatible donor carpet. Colour is only one part of the match: pile height, texture, direction, pattern and wear can all affect the finished appearance.
How Much Does It Cost to Repair an Iron Burn?
Iron burns fall within our burn-repair service, which starts from £90. There is no separate fixed price for every iron-shaped mark.
Two burns of a similar size can require different work. One may affect only the surface, while another may have damaged the backing. Send a close-up photograph with a ruler beside the mark and a wider photograph showing its position in the room.

Can a Burn Be Repaired Without Spare Carpet?

Where no offcut is available, a suitable donor section may sometimes be taken from an inconspicuous location, subject to assessment and your agreement. How that donor area will be left should also be discussed before any carpet is removed.

Does Having an Offcut Make a Difference?
An original offcut can make it easier to find compatible material. However, it does not guarantee an invisible result.
Carpet exposed to sunlight and daily use may have faded or worn differently from an unused offcut. The likely match should be discussed before any section is removed.
If you have spare carpet, send a photograph of it with your repair enquiry. Do not cut donor material from another part of the property before agreeing on the repair plan.
How Does the Source of Matching Carpet Affect the Price?
When there is no spare offcut, the cost depends on where the replacement carpet comes from and how you want any donor area left afterwards. The following examples explain three options Hi Carpet Cleaner can assess. These are indicative scenarios, not fixed prices for every repair.

Option 1: Use Carpet from a Storage Area or Beneath Furniture
With your agreement, suitable carpet can be lifted from a less visible area and fitted where the burn or other damage is most noticeable. This avoids having to buy a new length of carpet.
The removed damaged section can then be placed in the donor location. However, the donor piece may be larger than the damaged section, so the returned piece may not fill the whole opening. This option does not include fully restoring the donor area, and part of it may remain uncovered. The proposed donor location and how it will be left must be agreed before cutting.
The two completed repairs illustrated above each cost £180 in total, including the call-out charge, using carpet lifted from a storage area. These are actual job prices rather than a standard tariff for every burn repair.
Option 2: Repair the Donor Area as Well
If you also want the donor area repaired, this requires additional work and suitable material. For a comparable repair, allow around £100 extra, bringing the indicative total to approximately £280–£300.
A colour or texture difference may remain in the donor area. We need to assess the available material and explain the expected appearance before you decide which option to choose.
Option 3: Source Replacement Carpet Without Taking a Donor Piece
If you do not want carpet removed from anywhere else in the property, sourcing replacement material from a supplier may be possible. This can bring the indicative cost to approximately £600–£700, depending on the material, availability and work required.
To investigate a match, we need the carpet’s product code or a sample measuring at least 5 cm × 5 cm. Contact us before cutting a sample so its location can be agreed.
A supplier may require the purchase of a larger piece than the patch itself, such as a 1 m × 4 m length. This material purchase is one reason the total can be substantially higher than using an existing donor piece.
The original carpet may no longer be available. Even the same product can differ from an older installed carpet because of dye batches, fading and wear, so an exact visual match cannot be promised. Confirm availability, the proposed match, what is included and the total payable before booking. Hi Carpet Cleaner does not charge VAT.
What If Several Patches Are Needed?
Send photographs and approximate measurements of each damaged area. Multiple patches involve a different amount of work from a single small repair, so the starting price should not be treated as a fixed charge for the whole room.
Ask for a quotation covering all the areas you want repaired.

Carpet stretching starts from £120. It may be suitable for some carpets with ripples, bubbles or loose areas, but the cause needs to be assessed first.
The quotation depends on the area involved, the condition of the carpet and the fitting work required. A loose section near a doorway may need a different approach from ripples affecting a larger part of the room.
When requesting a quotation, provide photographs showing the whole affected area. Mention the approximate room dimensions and any heavy furniture or access restrictions so the work can be planned appropriately.
Stretching is not a suitable solution for every damaged carpet. Where the backing is weak or other fitting problems are present, those limitations should be explained before work begins.
